Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday, presented a budget estimate of N423.5 billion to the state House of Assembly for the 2024 fiscal year.

Presenting the budget, Lawal said the budget which was tagged, “Budget of Rescue”, has a capital expenditure of N305.3 billion which represent 64.1 per cent and recurrent expenditure of N134.1billion which represent 39.5 per cent of the budget.

While breaking down the appropriation bill, Governor Lawal said security, education, health, and infrastructure have the highest allocation with a view to rescue the state from its total collapse.

According to him, under security, the government in its effort to bring an end to banditry activities has placed the lion’s share of the budget, stressing that the “government has recruited 4,700 Community Protection Guide and are receiving training after which they would be posted to their various locality with the security personnel in the fight against bandits and other forms of criminalities.”

He further explained that the budget will focus on education, including the improvement of schools and welfare of teachers in the state, adding that the government would make sure that education receives full quality among the citizens of the state.

He added that under the 2024 budget, all the ongoing projects would be completed, while new roads projects would also commence in Mallamawa to Bukuyum, Bukuyum to Zoma to Gumi, Maradun to Makera, and Kwatarkwashi to Mada, among others.

Speaking, the Speaker of the House, Nasiru Ismaila Moriki, highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the present administration and commended Governor Lawal for his vision and mission for the development of Zamfara State under his six points agenda.

Moriki also acknowledged the good working relationship between the executive and the legislature in Zamfara State, assuring a speedy passage of the budget which he said has passed second reading.
