Lawmakers eject Budget Commissioner from Assembly Complex

For his refusal to honour invitations by the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, has been kicked out of the Assembly complex.

The incident happened during the 2024 budget Presentation by Governor Dauda Lawal on Thursday, December 21, 2023 in Gusau.

The lawmakers said the decision follows the refusal of the commissioner to honour their previous invitations given to him three times consecutively.

Before the arrival of the governor to present the budget, a member representing Gummi, Bashir Aliyu, raised the motion to draw the attention of the lawmakers to the misconduct of the budget commissioner.

He said the House invited the state budget commissioner three times to clarify some issues pertaining his office, but refused to honour the invitations.

He said the House was established and guided by laws that give power to them to invite any person to interview him especially those holding positions in government.

The lawmaker, however, noted that the commissioner refused to honour their invitation for three times and declined any explanation to the chamber.

Contributing to the motion, a member representing Maradun One, Faruk Dosara called on the House to withdraw its confirmation on the said commissioner as this was gross disobedience to the entire state.

Dosara submitted that without public apology by the commissioner the house should not entertain anything from his ministry.

Aside being sent out of the Assembly complex, the house threatened to withdraw the approval which confirmed him as Commissioner.

In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Bilyaminu Ismaila Moriki has directed the Sergent at Arm to eject the commissioner out of the Chamber
