Makinde: We won’t hold PDP for another party to win 2027 presidential election

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not be part of any agreement to hold the party down for another party to win the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde said this at the inauguration of the new PDP Secretariat in Oyo State, located at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The governor said he was yoked with some individuals in 2023 that saw to the emergence of the other party in the presidential election, “but now, I’ve repented. I will not go again.”

“But for them to hold PDP for another party to be in power, it is no, no, no,” he said.

Makinde attributed the crisis rocking the PDP to the handiwork of a few individuals in the party.

Makinde stated that the individuals were expelled from the party in November 2025, adding: “So whatever it is that they are doing, you should be able to trace it back to their origin.

Speaking on the party’s court cases, the governor said he has absolute trust in the judiciary, stating that the court will do the needful.

He stressed that judiciary being the last hope of the common man would give justice to the PDP.

Highlights of the event was the handing over of the newly built secretariat’s documents, named after the former state chairman of the party, Omokunmi Mustapha, to the court-nullified factional national PDP chairman, Kabiru Turaki.

In his remarks, Turaki appreciated Makinde for the building and his efforts towards the growth of the party.

A Federal High Court in Ibadan had, on January 30, nullified the party’s convention held in Ibadan in November 15 and 16, 2025, where Turaki was elected as chairman.
