Premier League champions, Manchester City, are set to offer the club’s striker, Erling Haaland, a new contract worth £500,000 weekly.

The Norwegian striker has scored 42 goals already this campaign, helping City remain in the hunt for three potential trophies this season.

Haaland’s ability as a goal-scoring machine has attracted interest from Real Madrid, who are thought to be keen on nabbing the player in the summer of 2024.

However, City are set to sit down with Haaland at the end of this season to thrash out a new deal, which will see him become the best-paid player in the Premier League on a basic salary of £500,000-a-week.

The 22-year-old’s current deal runs until 2027, but City are looking to extend it by a year as part of proposals to maintain Haaland’s services despite interest from Real Madrid.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker is currently one of the joint best-paid stars in the Premier League alongside City midfielder, Kevin de Bruyne.

Haaland currently earns a basic salary of £375,000 each week, putting him equally at the top of the Premier League’s best-paid stars, alongside Bruyne, and Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea.

However, Sportsmail, in October 2022, revealed that the Norwegian striker actually rakes in closer to £900,000 per week due to a series of substantial bonuses.

Now sources close to Haaland disclosed that City want to make him the first ever Premier League player to collect a basic salary of half a million pounds to send a clear “hands off” message to possible buyers.

Doing so would also boost his overall weekly wage to the £1 million mark.

It was learned that City also hope that tying down Haaland at the Etihad will attract his friend and former Borussia Dortmund colleague, Jude Bellingham, to the club.
