Man jailed one year for stealing he-goat

An Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced a man, Kefas Joshua, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a he-goat.

The police charged Joshua with criminal trespass and theft, contrary to sections 327 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The judge, Mr. George Gwani sentenced Joshua to six months imprisonment but gave him an option to pay a fine of N5,000 for criminal trespass.

Gwani, who also sentenced to one-year imprisonment for stealing, however, gave him an option of N20,000 fine.

According to the judge, the two sentences are to run concurrently

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Esther Bishen told the court that one Sunday Biam of Afana reported the matter at the station on August 3.

Bishen said the defendant stole the complainant’s he-goat worth N60,000.

He alleged that the defendant was known criminal in the community.

When the charge was read to Joshua, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
