A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Shiisu said the suspect (name withheld) also inflicted injuries on his neighbour’s daughter during the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 23.
The suspect, who is suspected to be mentally unstable, was alleged to have attacked his younger brother’s wife and his neighbour’s daughter with a pestle.
Shiisu said: “The tragic incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m., prompting an immediate response from a patrol team to the scene.
“The victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Jahun, for medical attention.

“One of the victims, identified as Ummi Sale, aged 20, died while on admission, while the other, identified as Hauwa Alkasim, aged six, is still responding to treatment.”
The police spokesman disclosed that the remains of the deceased have been released to her relatives for burial.
Shiisu said the suspect has since been in police custody while investigations continued.
He, however, assured that a thorough medical evaluation would be performed to determine the suspect’s mental state.
The police spokesperson also assured that the command remained committed to the safety and security of all residents of Jigawa State.
