Man kills ex-girlfriend’s mother, injures teen in Borno

A tragic machete attack in Dille District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State, has left a woman dead and her daughter critically injured.

The attack, which occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, was allegedly carried out by Abubakar Ijidai, a local resident, who targeted his ex-girlfriend, 18-year-old Lami Azuba, and her mother, 38-year-old Hauwa Azuba, while they were working on their farm.

According to eyewitnesses, Ijidai ambushed the pair and attacked them with a machete before fleeing the scene, leaving both victims in pools of blood.

Police officers from the Lassa Police Outpost responded swiftly, evacuating the victims to the General Hospital in Lassa. Unfortunately, Hauwa Azuba was pronounced dead on arrival. Due to the severity of her injuries, Lami was transferred to the General Hospital in Mubi, Adamawa State, for urgent treatment.

The body of the deceased was released to the family and has since been buried according to Christian rites.

Residents of Dille have condemned the attack and are calling for swift justice. The Borno State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspect and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and ensure he faces the full weight of the law.
