Many feared dead after explosion on Zamfara highway

An explosion believed to have been caused by a bomb has struck a busy highway in Zamfara State, leaving many travellers feared dead and causing panic among commuters and residents.

The blast occurred on Saturday along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in the Maru Local Government Area.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed that an explosive device detonated on the route, though officials have not yet provided exact details on the number of casualties.

The police’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the command is still gathering information on the incident.

Footage circulating online shows travellers fleeing in panic in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, with many vehicles and passengers caught in the chaos.

Social media users have expressed shock and sorrow over the attack.

One account described the blast as a tragic assault on innocent road users, urging security agencies to act swiftly to protect lives and bring those responsible to justice.

At this stage, the precise death toll and full details remain unclear as emergency and security teams continue their assessment of the scene.
