Fire has gutted the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) building in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that many people were trapped in the building which gutted fire in the early hours of Wednesday.

It was learnt that the inferno was caused by a power surge in one of the offices and spread rapidly.

The officers of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency responders, it was gathered, were at the scene of the incident to put out the raging fire.

Confirming the fire outbreak, the council’s spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina, in a statement, said all important documents and records were intact, adding that no life was lost.

Adesina stated that the fire occurred in the early hours and was swiftly put under control by a combined team of firefighters.
