The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has denied resigning from her position.
Reports had claimed that Meranda resigned as the Speaker following the leadership crisis in the House.
A circular datedFebruary 17, 2025, purportedly issued by Meranda has also been widely shared on social media.
Reacting to the claim on Wednesday, February 19, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, said: I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that (resignation) is coming from.”
There was a commotion at the Assembly complex in Lagos on Monday, February 17, as lawmakers and legislative staff clashed with the Department of State Services (DSS) officers after they arrived at the chamber.
Lagos Assembly: Remi Tinubu not involved in leadership crisis
The complex was shut for several hours before some legislative staff forced the chamber’s doors open.
The DSS later denied that its operatives invaded the Assembly complex, saying the officers were invited to forestall an alleged move to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the House.
The House speakership crisis started following the removal of Obasa as Speaker over alleged financial impropriety and gross misconduct.
Obasa was immediately replaced by his deputy, Meranda.
Obasa, on Friday, February 14, approached the Lagos High Court to challenge his removal by his colleagues.
