The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, on Monday, February 17, 2025, presided over plenary at the Assembly complex in the Ikeja area of the state.
The sitting was held amid the presence of heavy security operatives at the complex.
This followed a leadership tussle between ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Meranda.
No fewer than 10 police vans were stationed at the Assembly gate on Monday with security operatives manning various roads leading to the Assembly complex.
There was a mild drama when some of the security agents tried to gain access to the Assembly chambers. These delayed the plenary for some hours.
While issues to be discussed at the plenary are unclear as of the time of this report, some members and the Lagos Assembly were spotted discussing in clusters inside the premises.

Obasa who was away during his removal had insisted he was still the Lagos Assembly speaker.
The former Speaker who represents the Agege constituency dismissed fraud allegations against him which he labelled as “fictitious and unsubstantiated”.
He said: “My status in the house? I believe strongly I am still the speaker until the right thing has been done.
“If you want to remove me, remove me the proper way and I will not contest it. “I’m a Muslim and I believe in fate. But let’s do it the way it should be done.”
Obasa later dragged the Assembly and Meranda before the Lagos State High Court challenging his sack as the Speaker of the House.
The lawmaker asked the court to declare that his removal by his colleagues was unlawful owing since the Assembly was on break.
