Military hands over rescued schoolgirls to governor

The Nigerian military has handed over the rescued students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris—bringing closure to a harrowing episode that began with their abduction by bandits last week.

The girls were kidnapped when armed bandits invaded the school community in Maga, sweeping several students away in a coordinated nighttime attack that sparked widespread outrage and intense pressure for swift security action.

In response, the military launched a full-scale search-and-rescue operation across the affected axis.

The effort led to the successful recovery of all the abducted students, with troops intercepting the captors and securing the girls without casualties.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warrah Idris, acting on the directive of Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, formally handed the rescued schoolgirls over to Governor Idris in Birnin Kebbi.

All the students were declared hale and hearty, with no injuries or deaths recorded.

After medical evaluations and official processing, the girls are expected to reunite with their families later today.
