Missing 23-year-old man found dead in Kano

A 23-year-old man, Muhammad Hamza, who was earlier declared missing in Kankare, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, has been found dead in the Salanta area of the state.

A brother to the deceased, Hassan Hamza, confirmed to The Star that the body of his brother was found in Salanta area of Gwale LGA and rushed to the hospital by the police where he was confirmed dead.

Hamza, who was suffering from a mysterious ailment was said to have left home on April 30, 2022, and was last seen around where his dead body was discovered.

“My brother, who got missing on Saturday, April 30 was found dead at Salanta Quarter, the area he was first seen after he left home,” the elder brother of the deceased said.

He added that after Muhammad was declared missing, the family contacted relevant persons and institutions whose efforts eventually led a ward head of Salanta to reach out to them to confirm if the found corpse was that of his (Hassan) brother.

“You know we announced his missing everywhere. So, the ward head of Salanta contacted us yesterday and told us that they discovered a corpse on a street and they informed the police who took it to Nasarawa Hospital. Because he snapped the corpse, we confirmed from the picture that it’s Muhammad,” Hassan stated.

He added that the remains of his brother were later recovered from Nasarawa Hospital Morgue where it was deposited.

Hassan, on May 1, 2022, took to his Facebook page to announce that his younger brother was missing.

He wrote: “My younger brother, Muhammad Hamza, AKA Haske, has been missing since yesterday. He left home at about 5:30pm and has yet to return.

“In the past few days, we noticed a mysterious sickness in him – a sickness which we think is jinn-related. Please, include him in your prayers. May he return home safely.”

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said after examination by a medical doctor, the corpse was released to the relatives of the deceased, adding that there was no suspected foul play.

Kiyawa noted the corpse was released to the relatives of the deceased on Wednesday.

He said: “We recorded one corpse in Salanta of an unidentified person which was reported by one ward head and the corpse was deposited at Nasarawa Hospital.

“There was no foul play suspected after examination by a medical doctor.

“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police directed the DPO, Sharada Division, to proceed to the scene and recovered the corpse which was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where it was confirmed dead before it was deposited at Nasarawa Hospital Morgue,” the police spokesperson disclosed.
