Mother, daughter drown while returning from farm in Borno

Tragedy struck in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday when a woman and her nine-year-old daughter drowned while returning home from the farm.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the victims, identified as Habiba Abubakar (35) and her daughter Adama Abubakar (9), both residents of Ghung Village, drowned while attempting to cross a river at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the sources, police officers and local divers later recovered the bodies, confirming that there were no signs of violence on them.

Photographs were taken for documentation before the remains were evacuated to the General Hospital, Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where a medical doctor certified them dead on arrival.

The bodies were subsequently released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Maiduguri has commenced an investigation into the incident.
