A tragic incident has occurred in Kukurpu village, Kwajaffa District of Hawul Local Government Area, Borno State, where four children from the same family were confirmed dead, while their parents were rushed to hospital.
The victims were discovered on Thursday morning after neighbours became worried when repeated calls to the family’s head, 35-year-old Muktari Idrisa, went unanswered.
A neighbour, Bukar Musa, managed to reach Idrisa’s wife, Maimuna, who disclosed that the entire family was gravely ill and unable to move. Concerned residents hurried to the house and found Idrisa, his wife, and their four children lying unconscious.
Medical personnel later confirmed the deaths of the children, identified as Idrisa Muktari (male), Hauwa Muktari (9, female), Binta Muktari (6, female), and Saidu Muktari (1, male). Their parents survived and are currently responding to treatment at the hospital.
The children’s remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary before being released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the incident, but police say the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has launched a full investigation.
The tragedy has plunged the farming community of Kukurpu into deep mourning.
