Natasha: Yahaya Bello’s Senate bid isn’t a threat

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has downplayed concerns that former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello’s intention to run for the same Senate seat in the 2027 elections could undermine her political standing.

Through her media aide, Mike Idoko, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she welcomed Bello’s declaration and does not feel threatened by his decision.

She said his entry into the race would not unsettle her or derail her plans, adding that her team was ready to face any challenge.

Akpoti-Uduaghan currently holds the Kogi Central seat, having been elected in 2023 after a lengthy legal contest.

She also made history as the first woman to represent the district in the Senate.

Bello formally announced his intention to vie for the seat during a visit to the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland’s palace, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders from the region.

A video of his declaration was shared on his verified Facebook page, with him stating his acceptance to run in 2027.

At the event, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other political figures appealed to Bello to heed calls from party leaders and constituents urging him to represent the district at the National Assembly.
