NCC explains Abuja telecom disruptions, blames diesel supply crisis

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the quality of service challenges currently affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja, attributing the disruptions to difficulties in diesel supply to base stations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission said the service outages were linked to disruptions in diesel supply to facilities operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, a colocation company responsible for powering base stations used by major operators, including Airtel and MTN, in the affected areas.

According to the NCC, the situation arose from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which led to interruptions in diesel distribution, thereby impacting power supply to critical telecommunications infrastructure and causing service degradation across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Commission said it is working closely with relevant stakeholders and licensees to resolve the challenges and restore optimal service delivery.

It stressed the importance of reliable power supply to the effective operation of telecommunications networks and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless communication services for Nigerians.

The NCC added that it is actively engaging all parties involved to address the diesel supply bottlenecks and explore sustainable solutions to prevent a recurrence.

It also urged stakeholders to collaborate in swiftly resolving the issues affecting telecom services in Abuja.

Reiterating its commitment to creating a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of the telecommunications sector, the Commission said it is facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to ensure a prompt resolution of the crisis.

The NCC assured subscribers that it is closely managing the situation and will keep the public informed on progress toward the full restoration of services, while thanking consumers for their patience and understanding during the disruption.
