The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Lagos-based businesswoman, Chioma Nneka Mokeme, over alleged involvement in the importation of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, from Canada.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the NDLEA, operatives intercepted two consignments of the illicit substance weighing 4.7 kilograms at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The shipments, which arrived on British Airways and Ethiopian Airlines flights from Canada, were concealed in cartons labelled “Odugwu.”
The agency initially arrested two cargo agents, Ali Rotimi Samson and Orimolade Oluwagbenga, before apprehending Edeh Onyeamachi Stanislus, who allegedly attempted to collect the consignments from a logistics company.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mokeme on July 7 in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Area C Command in Surulere.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect, who claimed to be a printing business owner, told investigators that a friend based in Canada introduced her to the illicit drug trade.
The agency said investigations into the case are ongoing.
