NDLEA arrests deaf, dumb man for drug dealing

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have a male deaf and dumb suspect for allegedly dealing in illicit substances in the Samaru area of Zaria, Kaduna State.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Babafemi stated that 150 grams of cannabis were recovered from the deaf and dumb suspect while selling the psychoactive substance.

He said another 56-year-old suspect, Ibrahim Sani, was also arrested in possession of 51 kilograms of the same substance in the Tirkaniya area of Kaduna State.

He added that the NDLEA operatives, on Wednesday, January 31, arrested one Emmanuel Paul with 43.5kg cannabis concealed in used shoes loaded in a trailer coming from Ogbese in Ondo State to be delivered at Gwagwalada area of Abuja.

The NDLEA spokesperson noted the anti-narcotic officers on patrol along Dutsinma-Katsina Road in Katsina State, on Friday, February 2, apprehended a 35-year-old suspect, Murtala Isah, with 37,600 pills of tramadol and other opioids.

Babafemi further stated that NDLEA operatives, on Wednesday, January 31, destroyed 833.32 kilograms of cannabis sativa on a two-acre farmland at Iluke community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, adding that the owner, Samuel Atonila, was equally arrested.

He said on the same day, the operatives of the anti-drug agency also arrested three suspects – Muhammed Musa, Bilyaminu Musa, and Sadiya Ya’u – with the same psychoactive substance weighing 24.4kg at Uke in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Commending the anti-narcotic officers for the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), charged them and their compatriots across all formations of the agency to continue to remain vigilant and double their efforts on both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction simultaneously.
