Cabinet shake-up in Kano as water commissioner resigns

The Abba Kabir Yusuf has accepted the resignation of the Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa.

Doguwa formally tendered his resignation on Monday, March 2, 2026, with immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation for Doguwa’s commitment, loyalty and dedicated service to the people of Kano State.

He recalled that Doguwa previously served as Commissioner for Education, where he played a key role in advancing educational reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, before his redeployment to the Ministry of Water Resources.

The governor noted that within one year at the Water Resources Ministry, Doguwa oversaw major milestones, including the rehabilitation of water facilities and the expansion of potable water supply to several communities across the state.

He added that Doguwa’s leadership strengthened institutional capacity and improved service delivery in line with the administration’s vision of ensuring sustainable water access for all residents.

Describing him as a disciplined and hardworking public servant, Yusuf wished him success in his future endeavours and assured that the government would sustain the progress recorded in the water sector.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to uninterrupted water supply and improved welfare for Kano residents.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to supervise the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
