NDLEA arrests wanted drug kingpin at Lagos airport, nabs Chadian

A drug kingpin wanted for attempts to ship illicit drug consignments to London, the United Kingdom, Obiorah Chigozie Samuel, has been arrested by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Obiorah had been on the wanted list of the NDLEA since September 15, 2023, when a consignment of 1.500kg skunk concealed in flour going to London was intercepted at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, and his freight agent, Nworah Adaugo Precious arrested.

The wanted drug Kingpin was however arrested on Thursday, September 28, when he personally brought another tranche of 2.00kg concealed in cartons to the Lagos airport for shipment to London.

The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday, October 1.

Babafemi stated that Obiorah claimed he was into shoe sales in Lagos before venturing into the illicit drug business.

He added that a 25-year-old Chadian, Mohammed Ibrahim, was arrested with 11.8kgs of skunk at the Mafa checkpoint in Borno State on Monday, September 25.

He disclosed that the NDLEA officers, on Wednesday, September 27, arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Ifeanyi Odoh, with 59,867 pills of opioids, including Tramadol and 4.03kgs cannabis sativa at the Idah area of Kogi State.

While commending the officers of the anti-drug agency for the arrests and seizures, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), equally praised their counterparts across the country for ensuring a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
