NDLEA intercepts N9.3bn drugs at Lagos ports, seizes UK-bound tramadol hidden in soup containers

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted illicit drugs worth over N9.3 billion in Lagos State.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement issued on Sunday, July 26, said 2,240,000 pills of Tapentadol 250mg worth over N2.2 billion in street value were recovered from a shipment from India aboard an Air Maroc flight during a joint examination of the cargo at the Lagos airport on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Babafemi noted that the recovery came on the heels of the seizure of a consignment of tramadol concealed in containers of black soap heading to the UK, saying the shipment was intercepted by NDLEA operatives at a courier firm in Lagos on Wednesday, July 22.

Babafemi disclosed that a container of three vehicles used to conceal 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud weighing 2,388.5kg worth over N7.1 billion in street value was uncovered during a joint examination of the shipment on Monday, July 20, at the Apapa seaport in Lagos.

He added that the anti-drug agency continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities to schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others, in the past week.

The NDLEA spokesperson listed the activities to include WADA sensitisation lecture to students and staff of Government Day Secondary School, Sabon Wuse, Niger State; Government Girls Secondary School, Shekara, Kano State; and Otto Primary School, Ebute Metta, Lagos State; among others.
