The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted illicit drugs concealed in footwear at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Babafemi revealed that a consignment of 160 pills of tramadol concealed in footwear by a 38-year-old passenger, Umar Aminu, was intercepted at the arrival hall of the Maiduguri airport on Friday, August 1.

He said Aminu was promptly arrested by the anti-narcotic officers.
The NDLEA spokesman added that the agency continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities to schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others, in the past week.
Babafemi listed the activities to include WADA enlightenment lecture to students and staff of Ciroma Ibrahim Islamiyya School, Potiskum, Yobe State; Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, Wamakko, Sokoto State; metro drivers of Borno Express Transport Services, Maiduguri in Borno State; and worshippers at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Abakpa Nike, Enugu State.
