NDLEA seizes meth hidden in yogurt, speakers, busts cannabis factory

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide offensive against drug trafficking, intercepting methamphetamine concealed in everyday items, dismantling a synthetic cannabis factory in Ibadan, and recovering hundreds of kilograms of illicit substances across several states.

In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives recovered 627.7 kilograms of skunk from a makeshift warehouse in Kubwa. Attempts to smuggle methamphetamine hidden inside MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna were also foiled, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure of drug consignments.

In Taraba State, officers at a highway patrol point intercepted packs of yogurt used to conceal 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine. The suspect transporting the goods from Lagos to Adamawa was taken into custody.

A major breakthrough was recorded in Ibadan, Oyo State, where NDLEA operatives raided a facility used for producing Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis. The suspected kingpin, Jimoh Nurudeen, and an accomplice were arrested. Recovered items included precursor chemicals, drug paraphernalia, over ₦7.4 million in cash, and two vehicles.

In separate operations, officers seized 149.6 kilograms of skunk hidden in rice chaff in Oyo, recovered 395,400 capsules of tramadol concealed in a fuel tanker in Kwara, arrested a couple with 203 kilograms of cannabis in Imo, and uncovered 420 kilograms of the same substance in a bush in Ondo.

Beyond enforcement, the agency said it continued its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign in schools, workplaces, and communities nationwide.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), praised officers across commands for the arrests and seizures, urging sustained professionalism in both supply reduction and public awareness efforts.
