NDLEA seizes U.S.,UK-bound drugs hidden in ladies’ hair

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted five different parcels containing illicit drugs concealed in ladies’ clothes and synthetic hair going to the United States and the United Kingdom.

This was disclosed via a statement issued by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Babafemi noted that the illicit drugs concealed in clothes and hair were seized by the NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) at a courier firm in Lagos on Wednesday, June 5.

He listed some of the seized drugs to include 620 ampoules of pentazocine injection, promethazine, and other opioids.

The NDLEA spokesperson further stated that 35-year-old Blessing Samuel and 34-year-old Unnanchi Mike were arrested with 804 bottles of codeine syrup at Narayi in Kaduna State.

He noted that Tijjani Umar, 37, and Yahaya Suleman, 35, were also arrested with 33.9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa at Lafiya in Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

NDLEA intercepts drugs imported from India

Babafemi revealed that nine suspects were arrested by NDLEA operatives during a raid in the Toaabora hills area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Saturday, June 8, with 83.01kg of cannabis recovered from them.

Babafemi added that the commands and formations of the anti-drug agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others, in the past week.

The NDLEA spokesman listed the sensitisation activities to include WADA enlightenment lecture for students and teachers of Dibal Progressive Academy, Kano; students of Muslim Comprehensive High School, Saki, Oyo State; students and staff of St. David Grammar School, Ile-Ife, Osun State; students of Wisdom Rules College, Ukpakiri, Abia State; traditional rulers and community leaders in Ilorin, Kwara State; and WADA advocacy visit to the Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu.
