NDLEA uncovers N5.8bn drug stash in Lekki mansion, busts skuchies factory

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a massive drug stash worth over N5.8bn at a mansion in Lagos, as part of a series of anti-narcotics operations carried out across the country.

The agency said operatives from its Special Operations Unit raided a mansion located at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, on Friday, recovering 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms.

According to the NDLEA, the seized drugs have an estimated street value of N5.815bn.

The agency also recovered two Mercedes-Benz buses and several designer packaging materials allegedly used for retail distribution of the illicit substance.

In a related operation, NDLEA operatives raided a makeshift skuchies production factory in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos on Wednesday.

Two suspects, identified as Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested during the operation.

The suspects were reportedly caught preparing skuchies, a psychoactive mixture made with cannabis and other substances.

The agency said 270 litres of already processed skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg were recovered from the factory.

Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives arrested Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, with 129 kilograms of skunk at Nyanya-Karu in Nasarawa State on Monday.

In Kogi State, officers on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja highway intercepted a commuter bus travelling to Abuja and recovered 766 kilograms of skunk concealed in 76 jumbo bags.

Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Commenting on the operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the arrests and seizures.

He urged operatives across the country to sustain the agency’s anti-drug campaign and public sensitisation programmes under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
