The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three persons with disabilities for alleged drug trafficking during separate operations in Anambra State and Kwara State.
The agency disclosed that one of the suspects, 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, was arrested in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, following intelligence reports linking him to drug distribution activities.
NDLEA operatives said Nwabara was apprehended on Wednesday with 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets.
In another operation carried out in Ogbunike, Anambra State, officers arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth and recovered 160.3 grams of Tramadol in different dosages, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5 and 176.93 grams of skunk.
The agency also disclosed that a third suspect, identified as Usman Salisu, was arrested along Bode Saadu in Kwara State during a stop-and-search operation on a commercial vehicle.
According to the NDLEA, Salisu was found with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.
The agency said the arrests formed part of wider anti-drug operations conducted nationwide in recent days.
Beyond enforcement activities, the NDLEA stated that its commands across the country had continued sensitisation campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
The awareness programmes were held in schools, religious centres and communities in states including Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano and Oyo.
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the momentum in combating drug abuse and trafficking across the country.
