NELFUND denies suspending student loan programme, labels notice fake

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has dismissed reports claiming it has halted its student loan disbursement scheme, describing a widely circulated notice as false.

In a statement shared on Saturday via its official X account, the agency clarified that it has not announced any suspension of loan payments and urged the public to ignore the misleading document.

The viral message had alleged that the fund decided to temporarily pause disbursements due to “unforeseen operational circumstances.” However, NELFUND firmly rejected the claim, stating that no such directive had been issued.

The agency advised students and other stakeholders to rely solely on verified updates from its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to misinformation.

The clarification comes as the programme continues to attract attention nationwide. According to government data, the initiative has supported over one million students, helping to expand access to higher education. It has also recorded significant investment, with more than N1.1 billion spent, while over 160,000 young people have benefited from associated digital skills programmes.
