The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has recorded a decline in fuel supply and consumption in July compared to June 2026.
According to the NMDPRA monthly Factsheet for July 2026, crude oil receipt by domestic refineries dropped from 0.632 million barrels per day (mbpd) in June to 0.585 mbpd in July, representing an eight per cent variation.
The report showed that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, daily receipts fell from 50.6 million litres per day (lpd) in June to 45.5 million litres per day in July, a 10 per cent decline.
The NMDPRA said domestic petrol supply dropped from 32.5 million lpd to 25.8 million lpd, a 21 per cent decrease, while imported PMS rose from 18.1 million lpd to 19.7 million litres per day, representing a nine per cent increase.
For Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, daily receipt rose from 16.2 million litres per day in June to 23.6 million litres per day in July, a 46 per cent increase.
The NMDPRA disclosed that domestic diesel supply dropped slightly from 16.2 million litres per day to 15.7 million litres per day, a three per cent decline, while AGO imports rose from zero in June to 7.9 million litres per day in July.
It said Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), fondly called cooking gas, receipt increased from 5.1 kilotonnes per day in June to 5.3 kilotonnes per day in July, a four per cent rise.
It added that domestic LPG supply rose from 3.6 kilotonnes per day to 4.4 kilotonnes per day, a 22 per cent increase, while LPG imports fell from 1.5 kilotonnes per day to 0.9 kilotonnes per day, a 40 per cent decline,” the report reads.
The NMDPRA noted that Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) receipt dropped from 2.5 million lpd in June to 1.9 million lpd in July, a 24 per cent decrease, while domestic gas supply fell from 5.116 billion cubic feet per day (bcfpd) to 4.723 bcfpd.
This, it said, represented an eight per cent decline.
On stock sufficiency, the report showed improvement across board.
The NMDPRA said: “PMS stock sufficiency rose from 19.7 days in June to 22.4 days in July, a 14 per cent increase, while AGO stock sufficiency climbed from 37.1 days to 46.5 days, a 25 per cent rise.
“Consumption figures, however, showed a decline across major products. PMS consumption dropped from 47.4 million litres per day in June to 35.7 million litres per day in July, a 25 per cent decrease.

“AGO consumption fell from 16.0 million litres per day to 14.7 million litres per day, an eight per cent decline, while ATK consumption dropped sharply from 2.9 million litres per day to 1.7 million litres per day, a 41 per cent decrease.
“LPG consumption, however, rose from 4.1 million litres per day to 4.4 million litres per day, a seven per cent increase.”
On the performance of the Dangote refinery, the NMDPRA revealed that the facility produced 25.9 million litres per day of petrol, with domestic receipts of 25.8 million litres per day and exports of 3.4 million litres per day, leaving a closing stock of 446.1 million litres.
It said for diesel, the refinery recorded production of 19.1 million litres per day, domestic receipts of 15.7 million litres per day and exports of 11.0 million litres per day, with a closing stock of 162.3 million litres.
For ATK, the refinery produced 15.6 million litres per day, with domestic receipts of 1.9 million litres per day and exports of 11.6 million litres per day, leaving a closing stock of 217.4 million litres.
