The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says the country’s grid-connected power plants utilised 86 per cent of available generation capacity in August 2026.
The NERC made this known in its operational performance Factsheet for August, which was shared on X on Wednesday night.
The factsheet showed that the plants had an average available capacity of 4,758 MegaWatts (MW) during the month, while average utilisation stood at 4,102MW.
The report showed strong performance by some of the major generating units, with Afam_2 recording the highest load factor at 99 per cent.

Kainji_1 followed closely with a 98 per cent load factor, while Egbin_1 recorded 96 per cent.
The figures revealed that the three generating units operated close to their respective available capacities throughout the month.
According to the NERC, the operational data provides an assessment of the performance and utilisation of grid-connected generating fleet.
