NiMet forecasts 3-day rain, sunshine across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMet) has predicted rain and sunshine across the country from Saturday to Monday, July 20, 2026.

NiMet made this known via its weather outlook released on Friday, July 17.

The agency predicted sunny skies in the northern region on Saturday with a few patches of clouds anticipated in the entire region.

NiMet forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rains expected in parts of Taraba State during the afternoon or evening hours.

It stated: “For North central region, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the region throughout the forecast period.

“For the southern region, cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over the region with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.

“Later during the day, there are prospects of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.”

NiMet envisaged sunny skies with a few patches of clouds in the entire northern region on Sunday with prospects of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rains expected in parts of Taraba State later in the day.

According to NiMet, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated in the central region throughout on Sunday.

‎The agency predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine in the southern region.

‎NiMet anticipated prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains in parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta States.

‎According to the agency, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated in the North central region throughout the forecast period.

The agency envisaged cloudy atmosphere in southern region with intervals of sunshine and thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains in parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States later in the day.

NiMet added: “Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, the public should take adequate precaution and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision.

“Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.

“Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.”
