NiMet forecasts three days of sunshine, cloudiness across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine and cloud cover across the country from Tuesday to Thursday, with isolated thunderstorms and light rains expected in parts of the South and North Central regions.

In its weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region would experience predominantly sunny conditions throughout the three-day period.

For Tuesday, the agency forecast a mostly sunny atmosphere in the North, while the North Central region is expected to see patches of clouds and hazy conditions, with slight chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of southern Kwara later in the day.

In the South, sunny skies with cloud patches are anticipated, alongside prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rains in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers states.

On Wednesday, sunny conditions are expected to persist in the North. The North Central region may experience cloudy and hazy weather, with possible isolated thunderstorms and light rains over parts of southern Kogi, southern Benue and Kwara states later in the day.

Southern states are also likely to record thunderstorms with light rains in parts of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers.

By Thursday, NiMet forecast continued sunshine across the North, with cloudy and hazy conditions and slight chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kwara in the morning. In the South, isolated thunderstorms with light rains are expected in Bayelsa and Cross River states later in the day.

The agency warned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised residents, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.

Motorists were urged to drive carefully during rainfall, while airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.

NiMet also encouraged the public to stay updated through its regular weather bulletins.
