Nine bandits killed as security operatives repel attack in Kano

A prolonged gun battle between security forces and suspected bandits in Bakaji and Unguwar Garma, in the Goron Dutse area of Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, has reportedly left nine bandits dead.

One vigilante was also killed, while another was injured.

The attack began around midnight on Saturday, when a large group of bandits stormed the area, heavily armed.

According to eyewitnesses, they engaged the military task force in hours of intense shooting.

Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, explained that although the bandits later fled, they managed to escape with about 40 cows and abducted six people.

He added that the military seized several motorcycles belonging to the attackers.

However, the bandits returned early Sunday morning and again opened fire, but were unable to break through the security cordon.

Bagobiri said the security forces responded strongly, killing nine of the attackers, forcing others to retreat and abandon more motorcycles.

He also noted that the bandits retrieved the bodies of their fallen members before leaving.

He praised the military for their effort and bravery, saying their quick response prevented greater harm to residents who were too afraid to leave their homes during the incident.
