NIS enrols 8,552 Nigerians in passport exercises across four countries

The Nigeria Immigration Service has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians in special passport intervention exercises conducted in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Qatar.

The figures were disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi.

The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of applicants, with 5,099 Nigerians enrolled in London and Manchester.

According to the NIS, the UK exercise is still ongoing, with passport production and dispatch taking place alongside the enrolment process.

Canada followed with 2,257 enrolments from Nigerians in Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick.

In Qatar, 751 Nigerians were enrolled during an intervention exercise conducted in August 2026.

The United States recorded 535 enrolments during an exercise held between September 7 and 15, covering Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee.

The immigration service said the exercises were organised to provide passport services to Nigerians living in the affected locations.

It added that the interventions were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the respective countries.

The NIS clarified that the intervention exercises were separate from its regular passport service arrangements.

It said the figures represented applicants enrolled during the respective exercises, noting that the UK operation had yet to be concluded.
