NNPP declares Jibrin’s expulsion invalid

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the reported expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, describing it as “null, void, and unauthorised.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Secretary, Oginni Sunday, condemned the announcement made by Hashim Dungurawa, a former state chairman who, according to the NNPP, had earlier been expelled.

Sunday described the move as “a joke taken too far,” questioning how a non-member could attempt to expel a sitting federal legislator.

He further cited judgments of the Federal Capital Territory High Court and the Abia State High Court, which he said confirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his allies, including Dungurawa, from the NNPP.

According to him, Jibrin’s refusal to align with Kwankwaso’s camp had angered the Kwankwasiyya movement, prompting the alleged expulsion attempt.

Sunday also warned that Governor Abba Yusuf’s loyalty to Kwankwaso could undermine the party’s chances in the 2027 Kano governorship election, advising Yusuf to reconcile with the party’s national leadership if he hopes to secure re-election.

Jibrin, a former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group and a key figure in forging alliances between the APC and NNPP, described the development as “a rude shock.”

He rejected the accusations of anti-party activities and failure to pay dues, insisting he was never invited to defend himself before any party organ.

“Even under a military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court-martial,” he argued.

On the allegation of unpaid dues, Jibrin denied defaulting and challenged the party to issue him an invoice, which he pledged to settle immediately.

He also criticised what he called the NNPP’s disregard for members’ contributions, stressing that no politician should be treated as irrelevant.
