NNPP rejects Ghari/Tsanyawa re-run, alleges manipulation

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected the outcome of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Assembly re-run election in Kano State, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press briefing in Kano on Sunday, the party’s state chairman, Comrade Hashimu Dungurawa, alleged that INEC manipulated the process by discarding results from the re-run and relying instead on earlier results that had already been nullified by the court.

“In Ghari local government, the re-run was conducted peacefully, but through manipulation by some unpatriotic politicians working with INEC officials, the APC candidate was declared winner,” Dungurawa said.

He also faulted INEC for announcing the result at its Kano headquarters rather than the constituency collation centre, describing the move as irregular and prone to manipulation.

The NNPP insisted that results signed by presiding officers at polling units should have been upheld and vowed to resist what it called injustice and electoral fraud.

However, the party commended the Shanono/Bagwai by-election, where its candidate emerged winner, praising INEC and security agencies for ensuring a credible and peaceful process.

According to INEC, APC’s Garba Ya’u Gwarmai won the Ghari/Tsanyawa re-run with 31,472 votes, defeating NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado, who scored 27,931 votes.

Neither INEC nor the APC has yet responded to the allegations.
