NSCDC intercepts stolen tractors, uncovers sabotage in ministry

Yobe State operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have intercepted two government-owned tractors allegedly being diverted for illegal sale, exposing what sources describe as an “internal sabotage network” within the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The tractors, part of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s agricultural support programme, were reportedly seized on October 22 while being moved from an estate along the Damaturu bypass towards the Nayinawa axis, allegedly out of the state.

Security sources confirmed that the tractors bore clear government markings, leaving no doubt about their ownership.

More than a month after the interception, no official from the Ministry of Agriculture, including the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary, or departmental directors, has stepped forward to claim the machinery or explain the attempted diversion.

A source revealed that there have been attempts to quietly secure the release of the tractors, but the NSCDC officer in charge refused, insisting all parties involved must provide explanations.

His resistance reportedly led to his transfer out of the state, which insiders describe as an attempt to “bury the case and silence resistance.”

Investigations indicate that this was not the first diversion of agricultural machinery under the state’s empowerment scheme.

Similar incidents occurred months earlier, with tractors allegedly sold in a neighbouring state and no internal accountability measures taken.

A senior agricultural stakeholder, speaking on condition of anonymity, condemned the act as “pure economic sabotage,” noting that the tractors were meant to support farmers, enhance mechanised farming, and strengthen food security in Yobe.

The tractors remain in NSCDC custody pending official claims and clarifications.

As of this report, neither the NSCDC nor the Ministry of Agriculture has released an official statement on the matter.
