NYSC member killed in crossfire during robbery response in Abuja

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, Abdulsamad Jamiu, has been killed during a security operation following an armed robbery attack in Dei-Dei, Abuja.

According Headquarters of the Guards Brigade, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate.

Troops from the Brigade’s Quick Response Group were said to be on routine night patrol when they responded to a distress call over an ongoing robbery in the area.

However, upon arrival, they reportedly came under heavy gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to a brief exchange.

Jamiu was caught in the crossfire during the confrontation and later died from injuries sustained in the incident.

The Brigade described the situation as “fluid and highly volatile,” noting that troops were engaged in efforts to repel the attackers and safeguard residents at the time of the tragedy.

Commander of the Guards Brigade, alongside officers and soldiers, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and others affected by the loss.

The military authorities also disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, promising that findings will be made public.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital, while the Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies as efforts to maintain peace and security continue.
