The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has upheld the death sentence of a popular hotel owner, Dr Ramon Adedoyin, who was found guilty in the murder case of a postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in the Ile-Ife area of Osun State, Timothy Adegoke.
The Appeal Court upheld Adedoyin’s death sentence via a judgement on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The Osun State High Court had in a judgement delivered on May 30, 2023, sentenced Adedoyin and two workers at Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife to death by hanging for the murder of Adegoke.
The appellate court dismissed Adedoyin’s appeal in the case and declared that the judgment by the Osun State High Court which sentenced him to death stands.
The court said: “The judgement of the High Court of Ọ̀ṣun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.

“The Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”
Adegoke was found dead at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife, where the 37-year-old Master of Business Administration student had lodged in November 2021.
Adegoke was buried beside the house he built for his parents in the New Eruwa part of Eruwa town, the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, on January 29, 2022.
