Obi Cubana speaks amidst NDLEA probe

Popular businessman and socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, well known as Obi Cubana, has said that 2022 is the year he would showcases what he does for a living.

Obi Cubana made the declaration via a post on his Instagram page on Thursday night.

The socialite, who noted that he established his first club in Abuja in 2006, wrote, “Established 13th October 2006, 16 years and still standing. If you never come here that year for Abuja, you never start. This year: showcasing what we do for a living.”

The latest development comes amidst Obi Cubana’s probe by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over his alleged link to illegal narcotic business.

The popular businessman, it was gathered, was grilled by the NDLEA for hours in Abuja on Thursday over suspicious payments into his account by three convicted drug dealers from Nigeria, Malaysia and India.

He was later granted bail after hours of questioning and asked to return at a future date.

A source disclosed, “Obi Cubana arrived at the NDLEA office at about 9a.m. and responded to questions for some hours before he was granted bail at 2p.m. There are suspicions that he may be a drug kingpin. Some convicted drug dealers paid funds into his account.

“We have been able to establish three of such payments. One of the persons that paid money into his account was convicted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; another one that was convicted in New Delhi, India; also paid money into his account while a third person that was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and convicted in 2017, also paid money into Cubana’s account.”

It would be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in 2021 quizzed Obi Cubana about the sources of his wealth.

The businessman became the talk of the town in July 2021 when he organised a lavish funeral for his mother, Ezinne Iyiegbu, in Oba in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The funeral attracted several entertainers and renowned politicians from across the country including embattled Nigerian super cop, Abba Kyari.

Other entertainers that graced the event included Davido, D’banj, Kcee, Poco Lee, and Ubi Franklin, amongst others.

The highlight of the event was the ostentatious display of wealth as evidenced by the donation of about 400 cows to Obi Cubana and the spraying of Naira notes.
