The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has accused the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, of whipping up sentiments to garner sympathy from Christians through the church.
Okowa made the accusation in an interview with newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
The governor, however, said the church and religion entirely should not be dragged into partisan politics for anybody’s interest.
Obi, who left PDP is fast gaining popularity and has been visiting churches, where he was warmly received.
Okowa further debunked the allegation by some people that his emergence as the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP was a betrayal to the South.

He said it was unfortunate that some people hang on to anything even to the detriment of their fate regarding his choice as the PDP vice-presidential candidate.
“Now you begin to look at what is going on; the Peter Obi factor is as if he is trying to go through the church and make it look as if he is driving the Christians into politics. I do not believe that the church should actively go into politics because that is not their calling.
“But people are just hanging to anything they can reach out to even to the detriment of their fate. I don’t believe that’s the right part to go,” Governor Okowa said.
The governor has been in Kano since Sunday alongside the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to receive former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, into the party and also engage with other party stakeholders in the state.
