Oluremi Tinubu to inaugurate remodelled Abuja City Gate in May — Wike

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to inaugurate the remodelled Abuja City Gate in May as part of activities marking the administration’s third anniversary.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, disclosed this during an inspection of ongoing projects across the territory.

Wike said the transformation of the iconic City Gate would give Abuja a modern, symbolic entrance befitting the nation’s capital.
“We are remodelling the City Gate so it truly reflects Abuja’s identity. Once you arrive, you should immediately know you are in the city,” he said.

The redesigned structure will feature a water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT, along with recreational spaces for residents and visitors. Wike credited Senator Oluremi Tinubu for initiating the upgrade, noting that her vision prompted the overhaul of the long-neglected monument.

According to the minister, construction is progressing on schedule, with Julius Berger earning commendation for the quality and pace of its work.
“By and large, we are meeting timelines. We are happy with the quality of the job,” he said.

Wike also inspected other major infrastructure projects, including the Court of Appeal complex, judges’ quarters and residences for heads of courts. He revealed that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Daki Biyu is nearing completion and would be ready for commissioning in May.

He added that over 20 duplexes at the judges’ quarters and adjoining magistrates’ quarters would be delivered by the end of May, with additional land secured to enhance security and regulate access.
“We must ensure that those who will live within the judges’ quarters can be properly identified for security reasons,” Wike explained.

Residences for heads of courts— including the Chief Judge of the FCT, President of the Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and President of the National Industrial Court — are expected to be completed by October.
