The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four officers captured in a viral social media video allegedly making unprofessional and ethnically insensitive remarks to a member of the public during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Benin Expressway.
The command disclosed this during a press briefing addressed by its spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Friday, July 24, 2026.
One of the officers appeared to solicit a bribe from the motorist before later asking the latter to leave the scene without stating any traffic offence.
However, Jimoh said the officers had been identified and taken into custody following the circulation of the video.
The officers were identified as ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and Inspector Odusola Peter.
Jimoh said the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct and determine the level of culpability of each individual involved.

He stressed that police personnel are expected to carry out their duties with professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the Force’s Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures.
Jimoh assured the public that the investigation would be conducted in line with the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability, adding that any officer found to have violated the ethics and standards of the Nigeria Police Force would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.
