The members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, have embarked on an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their 13 months’ salary.

The lecturers made the declaration via a communique issued at the end of their meeting on Thursday, June 8.

The ASUP members, in the communique signed by the union’s chairman and secretary, Arikawe Ade, and Fapetu Damilola, respectively, declared they would not participate in the first semester examinations of the polytechnic slated for Tuesday, June 13, unless the state government did the needful.

“We want the payment in full of all outstanding (13 months) salary arrears owed to the staff of the institution.

“The Congress wishes to strongly emphasise that the decision above is binding on all the financial members of the union,” the aggrieved lecturers noted.

They, therefore, urged the Ondo State Government to assist the institution’s authorities to clear the salary arrears like the state and local government workers who are not being owed salaries.
