One dead, seven injured as Gombe Assembly complex collapses

One person has been confirmed dead while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a section of the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex under construction collapsed on Friday.

The incident occurred on July 10, trapping several construction workers beneath the rubble before emergency responders arrived at the scene.

The Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, Ummanah Ahmed, confirmed the casualty figure.

According to him, rescue teams evacuated the injured victims to hospitals for treatment, with three taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, and five others to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital.

Ahmed said some of the victims suffered severe injuries, while one person died in the incident.

He added that the cause of the building collapse has not yet been established, noting that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Emergency officials said rescue operations were carried out promptly to free workers trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Authorities are expected to release further details as investigations progress.
