A worker was injured after a five-storey building under construction partially collapsed in Wuse II, Abuja, with emergency officials confirming that no life was lost.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening on Durban Street, prompting the National Emergency Management Agency to mobilise emergency responders for search and rescue operations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NEMA said its Abuja Operations Office received an alert at about 6:30pm on October 17, 2026.
The agency said it immediately contacted relevant stakeholders, including the FCT Fire Service, while its AYA Emergency Response Ambulance Bay team was deployed to coordinate the response.
“Findings at the scene indicated that the incident was minor and involved a five-storey building under construction that had been partially pulled down,” the statement said.
NEMA confirmed that the injured worker was evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment, adding that no fatality was recorded.
The incident is the latest building collapse in the FCT, where structural safety concerns have followed several similar incidents in recent months.
On September 7, a three-storey building collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, hours after officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Department of Development Control reportedly sealed the property and ordered occupants to leave over concerns about its structural integrity.
Reports indicated that the building had shown signs of distress before the collapse. No casualties were reported in initial updates.
Earlier, on May 16, at least five people were killed and several others injured when a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area, near Gudu Market.
Following the Durumi incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered an investigation, while the developer and an engineer linked to the project faced possible arrest.
Wike also warned developers to comply with building regulations and allow relevant authorities to inspect construction sites.
