Osimhen, Lookman, Bassey make AFCON 2025 best team

Super Eagles trio Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Calvin Bassey have been included in the official Team of the Tournament for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the list on Wednesday, celebrating players who made the biggest impact across the competition.

Osimhen was instrumental to Nigeria’s run, netting four goals and supplying two assists as the Super Eagles finished third, clinching their ninth AFCON bronze medal.

Lookman emerged as one of the stars of the tournament, recording the highest number of goal contributions with four goals and three assists. His latest recognition means he has now made CAF’s Team of the Tournament in two consecutive AFCON editions.

Bassey also earned plaudits for his commanding displays in defence, anchoring Nigeria’s backline through the knockout rounds and playing a crucial role in the team’s series of clean sheets.

CAF also honoured Senegal’s Sadio Mane as Player of the Tournament, while Brahim Diaz took home the Golden Boot as the top scorer. Morocco’s Yassine Bono was named Best Goalkeeper.

The Best XI further features Idrissa Gueye, Pape Gueye, Achraf Hakimi, Moussa Niakhate, and Noussair Mazraoui.

Senegal were crowned champions after defeating hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the final, while Nigeria edged Egypt on penalties to secure third place.
