OsunDecides2026: Adeleke hails poll victory as triumph for democracy

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described his re-election victory as a triumph for democracy and the people of the state.

Adeleke spoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner of Saturday’s governorship election on Sunday.

The governor, in a video shared by TVC News on X, thanked God and Osun residents for supporting his administration.

“I feel great. First of all, I thank God Almighty for what has happened today. It’s a victory for democracy in Nigeria. A victory for Osun people that stood by me,” Adeleke said.

He said voters backed him because of what he described as his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education and agriculture.

According to him, the result was the people’s way of appreciating his government for delivering what he called the dividends of democracy.

“They said, ‘Imole, you have done a lot for us. You have given us dividend of democracy in terms of infrastructure, improving our education, agriculture, and so forth.’ So this is for Osun people saying, ‘Thank you, Mr Governor,’” he said.

Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 11 LGAs.

The results were declared by the State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
