Abia State Governor Alex Otti has sacked the Vice-Chancellor of the Abia State University (ABSU) in Uturu, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu.
The Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, announced the removal of the VC on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, while briefing newsmen at the Government House in Umuahia on the outcome of Monday’s State Executive Council meeting.
Kanu also announced the approval of the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the university, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo.
He further announced the appointment of a one-time Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Dr Agwu U. Agwu as Pro-Chancellor, Catherine Ifejika as Chancellor, Dr Onwubiko Dike as a member of the university’s Governing Council, and two Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

Others include four members of the university Senate, two members of the congregation, one member of Convocation, a representative from the Abia State Ministry of Education, and the appointment of a new bursar.
The commissioner added that the appointment was made, following the approval of the recommendations of the Visitation Panel to the university.
He said the panel was put in place to evolve effective strategies for addressing the challenges facing ABSU.
Kanu described the appointment of some persons who would oversee the affairs of the institution as the first in the series of reforms that would take place in the university.
Kanu added that the appointments would take effect from November 1, 2024.
