Outrage as dispatch rider samples customer’s small chops

A viral video circulating on X has triggered widespread outrage and renewed public health concerns after a dispatch rider was caught on camera eating from a customer’s order before completing delivery.

The footage, which surfaced over the weekend, shows the rider—later identified as David Agburu—sitting by the roadside with multiple packs of small chops laid out on the ground. He is seen opening each pack from the side, taking pieces of the snacks, and then resealing the packages before continuing his trip.

Reacting to the incident, the affected vendor, Larry Spice Ventures, distanced itself from the rider, clarifying that he was not a staff member but a third-party delivery agent hired via inDrive.

In a statement, the company condemned the act, describing it as unacceptable and below its service standards. It added that the matter had been formally reported to the delivery platform and that it was cooperating with ongoing investigations. The vendor also confirmed that the rider had been arrested and handed over to authorities.

The incident has sparked debate online, with users raising concerns about hygiene and the safety of food deliveries. Social media commentator Molara Wood described the act as a serious public health risk, noting the careless handling of food and lack of basic hygiene.

Many users have since called on vendors to adopt stricter packaging measures, including tamper-proof seals, stapled bags, and cling film wrapping to ensure customers can easily detect interference.

The controversy comes amid growing concerns about accountability in Nigeria’s logistics sector. Reports earlier in 2026 highlighted a rise in cases involving missing items, food tampering, and theft by delivery riders, eroding trust in the country’s fast-expanding food delivery industry.
